From Oblate Victor Kralisz:
PAX!
Quite a bit of planning has already gone into this year’s October Retreat. Much is left to be done. But so that you can begin to make your plans, this early information will prove helpful:
1. Because of the way the calendar works, Columbus Day/Thanksgiving moves up a week this year and so for us to keep to our traditional week after Columbus weekend, our dates will be October 17th – 20th.
2. In response to many comments received after last Fall’s retreat, this year’s retreat will begin on Thursday evening the 17th for greeting and orientation and extend through Sunday the 20th. This will then be truly a full 2-day retreat. If you’ve already made a reservation, you can change it with Br. Bruno through guest@msaviour.org.
Lots of details on pricing and logistics still have to be worked out. We’re working on some interesting interactive and contemplative ideas for programs.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to Penny Allen for her work on this over the past six years. Since she has many new commitments this year, I hope to be able to take up the cause. Please let me know if there is someone who is not on this list who should be informed. Eve Davila will be helping to keep the Oblates tab on the Monastery website up to date on Retreat news.
More news as it arrives! Corrections as they come up!
Victor
Dear Victor, Thank you for taking on the planning of next October’s Retreat and as you mentioned, we owe gratitude to Penny for the years that she has organized it. I have heard of the possibility that part of PILGRIMAGE, Hal’s lovely operetta, may be included in our Retreat this year. I have just seen the third part of the work and so can understand that it would be a lovely experience. Just as a suggestion, I wondered if a part of the Retreat could also be centered on The Rule of Benedict? I happen to have some material, from the 2010 Retreat, “Questions for Consideration” re the rule, or something of that nature, which might be illuminating to retreatants. Perhaps one or two meetings centered on that topic? This is just a suggestion and I look forward to whatever you decide. Sheila DeCosse

Thanks for the update, Victor. I just now sent an email to Bro. Bruno asking him if I had already registered for our Oblate retreat this Fall and if I had registered to extend from Thursday to Sunday.
