God is good!
All the time!
….and the goodness of God showed itself last night in the Common Room of the monastery.
After First Vespers of the feast of The Body and Blood of Christ the community gathered to give the habit to Brother Cester, the young man from the Philippines who came to us a few months ago.
In the simple ceremony Brother John, our Prior, asked Brother Cester what he sought to which he responded “The mercy of God”. Then was read Sirach 2:1-9, a reading that it be well for all of us to read. Then Brother John took a big copper basin and pitcher and washed Brother Cester’s feet and dried them with a white towel.
After a litany of petition Brother John blest the new habit and clothed the new novice with his tunic and belt and scapular and announced that from now on he will be called Brother Francis.
Usually at this time in the ceremony each brother would come forward and give the novice a kiss of peace but Covid restrictions are observed here so only the prior gave the kiss in the name of us all to Brother Francis
Somebody must be saying that prayer for vocation to our monastery!
God is good!

How encouraging! But not surprising, given the feasts we’ve been celebrating. Being separated is difficult, but makes us appreciate our need for community.

I say the Mt. Saviour prayer for vocations every day. It is taped in the cover of my prayer book. Iâm glad to see it is working. Pax.
